Ray Tracing
The term "ray tracing" refers to creating
objects in the computer with 3D attributes, creating
lighting and atmosphere, and then letting the computer
"render" the resulting image. There are a number of
programs that help you accomplish this like Pov Ray, 3DS
Max, Maya, Lightwave, Poser, Soft Image, trueSpace, Bryce
3D, Carrera, and many many more. They range in price
from hundreds to the cost of a house. Below are my
early attempts into the world of "ray tracing."
On 3/17/2006 I ran across a Web site
that hooked me for around eight hours straight. It is
by Gill
Trans. The section that hooked me so thoroughly is
"the
book of beginnings" where he has a few paragraphs with
each ray traced image he created. To me it seemed
taking the title of a creation and expanding it to be like
an excerpt from a story. I am so charged up now, that
I want to create some new ray traced images and add a few
paragraphs to each one. My skills are not anywhere
near Gill Trans', but as with most things I undertake, I get
better with time. Keep an eye out for additions to
this section.
